Baz plans further steps forward in Brno return

French rider gearing up for more gains at one of his favourite circuits

Another race, another step towards Loris Baz’s (GULF ALTHEA BMW Racing Team) full reestablishment in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship. After three years in the GP paddock, the French rider has faced the tough task of relearning the ways of WorldSBK admirably, showing progress round after round.

The gap between Baz and the leading group of riders was smaller than ever two weeks ago at Donington Park, with the 25-year-old securing two front row starts, including by far his best Superpole 2 performance this season with the third fastest time. Finishing both races in the top-ten, Baz is one of only three riders – himself, Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) and Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) – to have scored points in all twelve races so far. While the overall pace may still be lacking, there is fantastic consistency.

Baz not only has vast experience at Brno, despite his young age: it’s also one of his best performing circuits. He took part in the last round at the Moravian track in 2012, making his way to the rostrum for the first time in SBK©. Brno was also the scene for his joint-best MotoGP™ result, a fourth place in 2016.

Following his Donington progress, Baz hopes to see further steps taken in that direction at Brno: "I’m happy to get back on the track this weekend, we’re hoping for a good weekend at Brno. We made a good step at Donington and so I hope we can continue in that direction. It should be a good track for us, I like it at least and have scored solid results in both SBK and GP. We also have a few things to try on the bike, so I hope we can make another step and continue to close the gap to the frontrunners”.
